I spent this morning with Evelyn and her family. Love her amazing blue eyes! She was very serious for most of our time together, but luckily we got a few smiles so we could sneak a peek at her adorable new baby teeth. Paul and Heather, thank you for sharing your morning and Evelyn with me. Hope Evelyn took a good nap for you, I think we tired her out today!

I spent yesterday morning with sweet Nathan. At 6 weeks old he really isn’t a newborn anymore when it comes to photography. His mom and I were nervous to see if we’d get any peaceful, newborn sleep images. Nathan more than cooperated the entire session! He gave us smiles, held his head high, and even slept through a few sleep poses. I don’t think he cried once. He almost giggled during his diaper changes he liked them so much! Catherine and Derek you have a happy little boy. Thank you for inviting me into your home to take photos. I look forward to seeing you both again and watching Nathan grow this year!

I met Lila and her family at the Peace Gardens on Sunday afternoon. Lila was one of the first newborns I photographed when I first discovered my love for newborn photography. Now she is an adorable 9 month old! It’s always fun to watch babies grow.

Ed and Julie you have a beautiful family! Thank you for making the shoot so fun. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

Jason's big 1 year smile
This morning I met Jason and his family at Minnehaha Falls. What a perfect fall day! It was going to be too perfect actually.  We changed our session from this afternoon to mornings to avoid the 80+ degree heat.

You may remember these beautiful blue eyes from Jason’s 9 month shoot.  It was fun to see how Jason has grown in just a few months!  Kristy and  Jeff it was nice to see you both again.  You have a wonderful family!

It was a beautiful fall day to take photos at Richardson Nature Center with August and Finn. Finn enjoyed looking for fish in the lake and climbing a tree. He did keep trying to find the “real” park as we hiked around. August was just happy showing off her exceptional one year old walking skills and big blue eyes.

I’ve known Finn and August’s mom, Leah, since she was the one out fishing and climbing trees as a tomboy. I spent every summer as a child at our cabin hanging out with Leah’s family. They are some of my favorite memories! It was so fun to catch up a bit yesterday with you Leah. You and Harold have a beautiful family!

Yesterday I spent the late afternoon getting to know Finley. She was a very mellow, happy baby. I loved trying to capture her brilliant blue eyes and smiles. The eyes were easy! She tried to hold back on smiles unless mom was doing a crazy dance or dad was running around!

Kristin and Pat it was fun getting to know you both. You have a beautiful family! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening to take photos. I’ll post a few more so check back in a couple days.

Reese's peaceful sleep

There always has to be a first, I’d never had anyone fall asleep during a shoot.  Well, except for newborns of course!    20 minutes into our one year photo shoot, Reese had fallen asleep in her mom’s arms.  It was her birthday and she had celebrated the day before.  Now she was tired.  We let her sleep and headed back home to set up for  a cake smash.  She had no problem waking up when she saw the cake!

My first cake smash photo session was with Patrick. He has been a first model for so many things this past year!

I learned a couple important things.  1. Don’t do the photos outside…it can get too windy. 2. Cake smashes are very messy!  –I’m glad I did the first one outside instead of making a mess of Patrick’s house.

Patrick was slow to warm up to the idea of what the cake was all about….but once he discovered that the frosting was a lot like finger paint he had fun. I don’t think very much cake was eaten, but I do think Patrick had fun.

Happy Birthday 1st Patrick!

I had the joy of taking photos of a very sweet little boy this evening!  He had just woke up from a nap and was in a very serious mood.  With his dad’s help we were able to get some cute smiles out of him!  Kristy and Jeff, your little boy is beautiful.  Love that smile!

One of my favorite parts of photo processing is creating a storyboard. I love how bringing pictures together makes for an interesting and beautiful image.
